After graduating (2006) from the leadingart academy St.Joost in Breda, Holland, Ward van Gemert spent his first years as a professional design assistant to international acclaimed Dutch Designer Maarten Baas with whom he shared a view on art and design.

In 2010 he founded his own studio in Rotterdam, Holland, a city that fuels him with the right energy for his designs.

Ward is mainly interested in mixing elements of high culture and popular culture into his designs. He is also keen on investigating the boundaries between what is considered as good taste and bad taste.

He brought the Oculus tradition into the 21st century with his P.O.V. Series. Deftly named to highlight the fact that "point of view" is critical to the way it's perceived, the object is a  round resin ring surrounding an abstract lenticular circle that, when hung on the wall, creates a continuously dynamic range of color. It is in constant flux, responding to the light that surrounds it and the viewer's movement. P.O.V. becomes both a portal of light and a reflection of the external.
