"The work of art is a scream of freedom."Christo

Christo was a visionary artist who, alongside his wife and collaborator Jeanne-Claude, transformed the landscape of contemporary art through monumental, site-specific installations. Born in Bulgaria, Christo fled the Eastern Bloc to Paris and later New York, where he became a pioneer of "wrapping"—a process that simultaneously concealed and revealed the essence of objects, landmarks, and entire environments.

His practice was defined by a radical spirit of independence; he famously refused all grants and corporate sponsorships, self-funding multimillion-day projects through the sale of his preparatory drawings and scale models. From the saffron walkways of The Gates in Central Park to the silver-wrapped Reichstag in Berlin, Christo’s work was inherently temporary, designed to exist only as a fleeting "scream of freedom" that challenged our perception of space and public property. His legacy remains a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that art should be a purely democratic, uncompromising experience.
