When Ai Weiwei first held up his middle finger to historic monuments in 1995, he captured a universal truth: individual perspective will always challenge official power. Circle in Black expands on that legacy through the lens of ancient Chinese craft. Using hand-carved wooden blocks and heavy black ink, Weiwei arranges his famous rebellious gesture into a rhythmic, circular motif. The result is both an homage to historical technique and a sharp, textured statement on personal liberty.
